"I'm a bulldozer!" A 2-year-old's homemade construction costume just won Halloween in New York City

A New York doctor spent three days building her 2-year-old a bulldozer costume. Strangers on every stoop declared it the best of the night.

Some kids go trick-or-treating. One New York City toddler went trick-or-treating in heavy machinery. Strapped into a homemade yellow bulldozer with a hard hat on his head and a safety vest over his shirt, the 2-year-old rolled down a leaf-covered sidewalk announcing his job title to anyone who would listen: "I'm a bulldozer!"

The grown-ups on the stoops agreed he was the clear winner. "You win, you win!" one man called out as the little operator walked past. Another handing out treats graded the outfit on the spot: "A+ homemade costumes!" A third noticed the scoop on the front and cracked up. "Oh, it catches candy too!"

The mastermind behind the build is Shirin Ahmed, a New York doctor and mom who shares life as a working parent and her hijabi style with her followers online. She also founded From, Mama, an app that helps mothers write letters for their kids to open years from now. She has posted plenty of family moments before, but nothing took off quite like this one.

Three days of cardboard engineering

Ahmed said in her caption that the costume took three days to make with her 2-year-old and was "100000% worth it." From the back it looks like the real thing, complete with a painted Caterpillar logo, wheels on each side, a little set of controls in front of the driver and that very practical front bucket.

Her on-screen text was half brag and half panic. She joked that she may have accidentally set a standard she now has to beat every October from here on out. The clip has pulled in more than 8.1 million views on Instagram and another 1.1 million on TikTok.

The stoop reviews were glowing

At one house a woman stopped mid-candy handoff to ask if she could snap a photo. At another a group of girls on the steps gasped and called it the best costume they had seen all night. One girl announced she was about to lose her mind. Her friend raised both hands, brought them down and summed it up for everyone: "Hands down."

Even Caterpillar's official Instagram account showed up in the comments. Other parents piled in to swap photos of costumes they built for their own kids and to argue that homemade beats store-bought every single time. Watching one tiny construction worker collect his candy one scoop at a time, it is hard to disagree.
