Forget the tablet: this toddler's screen time is her retired Navy grandpa's sunken ship presentation
A toddler sits at a picnic table while her retired Navy grandpa walks her through photos of sunken ships. The clip of their lesson has passed 1.1 million views.

Some parents hand their kids a tablet. One family hands theirs to Grandpa, a retired Navy man with a stack of pictures and a lot to say about ships at the bottom of the ocean.
The singer-songwriter known as Semler posted the clip before heading out on tour. It has now been watched more than 1.1 million times on Instagram. It opens with Semler lying on a bed, staring at the camera with a perfectly straight face while text explains that the family does not really do screen time with their toddler. They do something far more stimulating instead.
Then the video cuts to the main event. A tiny girl sits at an outdoor wooden table across from her grandfather, who is in full lecture mode. He holds up one picture of a boat, points to another on the table in front of her and explains with total seriousness that it is actually the same ship. The toddler listens like she is taking notes for a final exam.
Semler's caption adds one more detail that made viewers laugh even harder. Grandpa, they joked, was running on a fresh energy drink, which explains the pace of the presentation.
The comment section wants a seat at the table
Viewers quickly asked whether Grandpa takes adult students. Plenty of people said they would happily trade their own scrolling time for a deep dive into shipwrecks. Others shared stories about their own parents doing oddly specific activities with the grandkids, from bird identification to long talks about trains, plus the strange obsessions their kids picked up along the way.
Semler, who often shares funny moments from home with their wife and child, had a simple point under all the jokes. The best entertainment for a toddler might be a grandparent who loves something enough to explain it twice. Whether the little one becomes a naval historian is still to be determined.
