Ravens close in on a trade for Jacoby Brissett with Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley hurt
Baltimore is finalizing a deal for benched Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett after losing Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. Joe Fagnano starts Thursday.
The Baltimore Ravens are about to get some help at quarterback.
Baltimore is finalizing a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for veteran Jacoby Brissett, according to league sources. The deal is expected to be completed this weekend.
The Ravens badly need him. Lamar Jackson has a thumb injury that will require surgery and could end his season. Backup Tyler Huntley is also done for the year with a turf toe injury.
Fagnano gets Thursday
Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will start Thursday night's game against the AFC South-leading Jacksonville Jaguars.
Brissett's first start for Baltimore could come in Week 10, when the Ravens host the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night. The Ravens are 4-4 and sit last in the AFC North.
Benched in Arizona
Brissett had started the last 20 games for the Cardinals. He was pulled late in the third quarter of Sunday's 33-30 overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Arizona then named Gardner Minshew II its starter, with rookie Carson Beck as the backup. Brissett asked for a trade Monday after coach Mike LaFleur told him about the change.
The Cardinals went 3-5 this season with Brissett starting. Over his 20 starts he led the NFL in dropbacks, completions and attempts. He was also sacked 62 times, tied for the most in the league.
A familiar face
In Baltimore he will reunite with quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork. The two worked together in Arizona last season and in Cleveland in 2022.
Brissett held out this past offseason for a new contract. He ended up with $15.5 million guaranteed for this season.
