Cardinals name Gardner Minshew their starting quarterback as Jacoby Brissett drops to No. 3
Arizona is going with Gardner Minshew at quarterback after his overtime comeback win over Dallas. Rookie Carson Beck moves up to backup.

Gardner Minshew is the Arizona Cardinals' starting quarterback going forward. Coach Mike LaFleur made the call official Monday.
The move shakes up the whole quarterback room. Jacoby Brissett, who had started every game this season, becomes the emergency third quarterback. Rookie Carson Beck moves up to the backup job.
Arizona plays at the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
The spark against Dallas
Minshew came in for Brissett with 1:35 left in the third quarter Sunday against the Cowboys. The Cardinals scored touchdowns on all four drives he led in regulation.
He then led the overtime drive that set up Chad Ryland's 42-yard winning field goal in a 33-30 victory. Minshew went 17 for 23 for 188 yards and three touchdowns.
Brissett was 10 for 23 for 119 yards before he was pulled. He was sacked four times.
LaFleur said benching Brissett was a gut call because the team "needed a spark."
"He's a competitor and he's always prepared," LaFleur said of Minshew. "He's preparing like he's the starter. He's preparing like he's going to be in there for whatever snap."
'Not a fun phone call'
LaFleur said telling Brissett was hard. He added that Brissett has handled the news like a pro.
"It's not a fun phone call," LaFleur said. "There's no book for that obviously. There's a human element to it. I have a lot of respect for Jacoby, the person. I have a lot of respect for Jacoby, the player."
He also said the loss of the starting job was not all on Brissett. "This was collective and starting with me," he said.
Carson Beck moves up
Beck, a third-round pick this year, has been inactive for all eight games. He has also been dealing with back spasms lately.
LaFleur said Beck is "feeling really good right now" and called the move the right thing to do for his development. Beck will get scout team reps in his new role.
LaFleur said he spoke with players outside the quarterback room before making the change public. "I'm not worried about our locker room," he said.
