Noah Wyle recalls a rude brush-off from Eddie Murphy at age 9
Noah Wyle says Eddie Murphy cursed at him when he asked for an autograph at 9. Decades later his daughter Frances made him a homemade one.

Noah Wyle has been crowned this year's Sexiest Man Alive. As a kid, though, he could not even get a signature out of one of his comedy heroes.
The star of "The Pitt" shared the story on the newest episode of "Good Hang with Amy Poehler." He was only 9 years old when he walked up to Eddie Murphy and gushed about how much he enjoyed him on "Saturday Night Live."
A question and then a curse
Murphy first wanted to know why a boy that young was staying up so late to watch the show. Wyle pushed for a signature anyway. That is when the comedian allegedly snapped, "F*** off, man."
Wyle said the moment never left him. It is the reason he always says yes when a child asks him to sign something.
A gift from Frances
The tale has a happy ending. Last year Frances, now 10, set out to fix that old wrong as a birthday surprise.
She printed a picture of Murphy and wrote a fake note from him on it. She even spelled his name "Eddy." Wyle loved it so much that the homemade keepsake now hangs in a frame in his office.
Poehler laughed at the whole thing. She joked that maybe the world has gone a bit too soft on kids these days.
A big week for Wyle
The podcast chat came just days after Wyle was named Sexiest Man Alive for 2026. He said he first thought the honor was a prank.
He credited his wife Sara for changing his mind. "She thinks I'm a good guy," he said, adding that she believes the kind of father and husband he is "is worth promoting." He told her, "Okay, if you say so."
The actor is a dad of three. Owen, Auden and Frances are his kids from his marriages to Tracy Warbin and to Sara.
