Shane Gillis does not have to worry about a ban from "Saturday Night Live" after a live curse slipped out while he hosted the show. A source close to the series says the network is treating the slip as an accident.

The on-air moment

Gillis hosted this weekend and landed in a Dr. Seuss bit. Mikey Day played his on-screen dad the Cat in the Hat. Andrew Dismukes was Sam I Am and kept pushing green eggs and ham.

Gillis stepped in to defend his on-screen father. When Dismukes kept pushing, Gillis fired back that the idea was a non-starter and then let the F-word slip before he could catch himself. He tried to cover it with a quick "Jeez" mid-sentence.

The censors did not catch the word in time for the live broadcast. The clip has since been cleaned up for later airings.

What the show is saying

A source close to the show said Gillis was very apologetic and spoke with producers backstage right away. The source called the swear "purely an accident" and said accidents happen.

The same source said producers are not shutting the door on future Gillis bookings.

His rocky history with Studio 8H

Gillis was hired as a cast member in 2019 and fired a few days later after old podcast clips surfaced with anti-Asian slurs. He has since hosted three times and the "Tires" star looks set to keep coming back.

With no ban on the table more Gillis episodes remain on the table too.
