Channel 4 axes UK marriage reality series after assault allegations
Channel 4 canceled its UK Married at First Sight series after an internal review and after contestants alleged rape and other non-consensual acts.

Channel 4 has canceled "Married at First Sight UK" after contestants alleged rape and after an internal review called for stronger safety steps on the set.
The review recommended changes such as panic buttons for couples and locks inside shared bedrooms. Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra said the ideas were sensible yet their full rollout raised basic questions about a format that had run for 10 years.
"The recommendations are eminently sensible and feasible, but considering their wholesale implementation provoked fundamental questions about the editorial proposition of a show that, I believe, has now run its course over 10 years," Dogra said.
Two women who appeared on the series told investigators that their husbands raped them. One said she was also threatened with an acid attack. A third woman, Shona Manderson, said her spouse carried out a sex act without her consent. All three men have denied the claims.
Everyone who spoke in that investigation said Channel 4 did not do enough to protect them. Reviewers concluded the network still stayed inside Ofcom broadcasting rules even while noting that producers pressed cast members toward intimacy.
