Karoline Leavitt stands up for fired successor Katie Zacharia in a late-night chat with Bill Maher
Former press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Bill Maher the job is very tough and pointed to The Apprentice to explain how Trump moves on from people.

Karoline Leavitt knows exactly how hard the podium can be. Now she is going to bat for the woman who followed her into the job and lasted less than a week.
Sticking up for Zacharia
During an appearance on "Real Time" Leavitt stood up for Katie Zacharia in a conversation with host Bill Maher. Zacharia was fired after just 5 days as White House press secretary.
Leavitt called it a "very tough job." She noted that "only 37 people in history" have ever held the position.
Why it didn't work out
As for why Zacharia was let go so quickly, Leavitt said President Donald Trump simply felt she was not the right fit for the role.
Maher compared the situation to baseball. Leavitt had her own way of putting it. She pointed to Trump's run on "The Apprentice" and said he has a habit of "moving on from people."
Two very different records
Leavitt holds the record as the youngest press secretary ever. She took the job at 27 and served from January 2025 until August 2026.
She left the post so she could put her family and her 2 little kids first.
Zacharia now holds a very different record. She is the shortest-serving press secretary in history.
