John Schneider now admits he owes ex-wife Elvira about $3.7 million in back spousal support
John Schneider now accepts he owes ex-wife Elvira about $3.7 million in back support. He is fighting a plan to take half his Social Security.

John Schneider has stopped disputing how much money he owes his ex-wife.
The Dukes of Hazzard actor now concedes that he is behind about $3.7 million in spousal support to Elvira Schneider, according to reports. He blames the mix-up on the fact that the split played out in courts in both Louisiana and California.
John is not asking the court to wipe out the debt. He is pushing back on a request that would send half of his Social Security checks to Elvira until the full amount is paid off.
Why he is fighting the Social Security plan
In his filing John says he is not "financially capable of satisfying the accumulated arrearages." He argues that taking a large share of his Social Security would leave him short.
Elvira had earlier told the court he owed her more than $2.3 million in support. She said roughly $1 million in interest should be added on top of that.
A long split
The pair ended their marriage in 2014 after 21 years together.
In 2019 a judge ordered John to pay Elvira $25,000 every month in support.
