UK park says tiger Altai will be spared after fatal enclosure attack
Yorkshire Wildlife Park says Altai the Amur tiger is safe and will not be put down after a man who entered his enclosure was killed on Saturday.

The tiger that killed a man at a wildlife park in England will be allowed to live. Park officials say the big cat will not be euthanized.
Park says Altai is safe
Yorkshire Wildlife Park said Sunday that Altai is "safe and well." The announcement came one day after the deadly attack.
The park said it had been flooded with messages from people worried about what would happen to the animal.
What happened Saturday
The attack took place Saturday afternoon at the park in Doncaster. A man went inside Altai's enclosure.
South Yorkshire Police said the tiger attacked him and left him with serious injuries. Emergency crews rushed to the scene but the man died there.
About Altai
Altai belongs to the endangered Amur subspecies. A Norwegian zoo sent him to Yorkshire in February 2025, a journey of over 1,100 miles. His keepers recently marked his fifth birthday on Instagram.
Staff have called him a curious cat with a calm nature. He was brought in through an international breeding program meant to help protect the species.
The park stayed closed Sunday as staff dealt with the aftermath. The man's family has been told and is getting help from specialist officers.
