The custody case between Milwaukee Bucks guard Tyler Herro and his ex Katya Henry has turned into a fight over how the two of them talk to each other.

Her request

In new court filings Henry asks that every exchange with Herro run through the messaging app the court has approved. She objects to what she calls his "unreasonable and irresponsible position" that anything about their two children should go through his mother.

Henry claims that when she raises the kids with him he usually answers in a hostile and emotional way. She says he broke an existing order that requires the pair to stay respectful with each other by sending her texts she describes as rude and far from polite.

She says the tension grew after the Miami Heat traded Herro to the Bucks. He now lives in Milwaukee while she remains in Miami. Henry says he suddenly wants more contact and time with the kids even though that would take long flights with a lot of moving parts. She wants the judge to order him to keep his messages appropriate.

His response

Herro fired back in his own filing. He accuses Henry of creating what he calls "artificial drama" in the media to squeeze more financial support out of him. He says her claims are needless and beside the point and were made to paint him as the villain when he is a working father who wants to see his kids.

He calls her account of his texts untrue. He says he talks to her the way any former couple would. He concedes that neither of them has always chosen the perfect words but insists his messages have been reasonable and that nothing he sent would justify running to court. He also says there is nothing wrong with asking her to handle custody scheduling through his mother.

The wider dispute

The pair broke up in 2025 and Henry opened her case seeking custody and child support this year. They have two children together. She has asked for primary custody and said she has cared for the kids most of the time since the breakup.

She also wants safeguards placed on his parenting time. Herro opposes any restrictions and says there is no need for them.

In earlier filings Henry claimed Herro took only a handful of overnight visits with the children from March 2025 until she opened her case. She agreed he has supported the kids financially since birth.
