The Milwaukee Bucks made a surprising cut on roster deadline day.

Milwaukee waived guard Kevin Porter Jr. on Monday ahead of the NBA's roster deadline. Porter led the Bucks in assists per game last season and ranked second on the team in scoring.

Productive when healthy

Injuries held Porter to 38 games in 2025-26. When he played the 6-foot-5 guard filled up the box score. He averaged 17.4 points, 7.4 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals.

A crowded backcourt

The Bucks had more guards than they needed as they start over without two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Milwaukee traded Antetokounmpo to Miami in the offseason.

Letting Porter go should mean more playing time for rookie Brayden Burries and 20-year-old Kasparas Jakučionis. They join returning guard Ryan Rollins and 2025 All-Star Tyler Herro.

Jakučionis and Herro both came over in the Antetokounmpo trade. Milwaukee took Burries out of Arizona with the 10th pick in this year's draft.

The Bucks open the season Wednesday at Washington.
