Pat Murphy says he regrets his hot-mic Yankees jab and called Brian Cashman
Brewers manager Pat Murphy says he regrets his viral World Series celebration jab at the Yankees and called GM Brian Cashman to explain what he meant.

Pat Murphy wants to take back one part of his World Series celebration.
The Milwaukee Brewers manager said Tuesday that he regrets a jab he made at the New York Yankees. He said he never meant to "slander" them.
Murphy spoke on a New York podcast six days after the Brewers won the first World Series title in team history.
The hot-mic moment
After Milwaukee clinched Game 5 against the Tampa Bay Rays, Jake Bauers handed Murphy the ball from the final out.
Bauers played for the Yankees in 2023. Murphy told him to remember "that horses--- Yankees team" where players were "all playing for yourself."
The moment was caught on video and went viral last week.
A call to Cashman
Murphy said he did not know he was on a hot mic. He called Yankees general manager Brian Cashman as soon as he heard the clip was out.
He said they had a "good conversation."
"I tried to explain that I wasn't talking about the 2026 Yankees," Murphy said. He said he meant big-money teams that sometimes play with a "'I gotta get mine'" attitude. "I regret saying it."
"It wasn't smart on my part and I'm sorry about it," he added.
All part of the act
Murphy said he had been needling Bauers like that all postseason. Bauers is set to become a free agent.
"After every celebration I'd shake his hand and I'd say, 'You rich so-and-so, you're going to leave us,'" Murphy said.
Bauers earned the payday. He set career highs this year with a .266 average, 26 home runs and 86 RBIs. He was also MVP of the NLCS sweep of the Dodgers.
