County health inspectors plan a site visit at the Los Angeles "trash house" as the owner's case moves through mental health court
The county's Environmental Health division will check the Fairfax District property for trash buildup, sanitation problems and signs of vermin while the mayor's office pushes for a conservator.

Los Angeles County health officials are getting ready to take a closer look at the Fairfax District home known as the "trash house."
The county's Department of Public Health said its Environmental Health division will carry out a site investigation after learning about the property's latest condition. Inspectors are expected to evaluate the piles of trash, any sanitation problems and any evidence of vermin or infestation.
What happens next
If inspectors find violations that need to be fixed, the county says it will notify the owner by certified mail and post a notice on the door if they can reach it. The findings will also go to the county Department of Mental Health and the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety, which will decide whether more action is needed.
County officials said they had not received any recent complaints about the home and had not inspected it since last year. Environmental Health last worked on the property during a multi-agency cleanup led by the City of Los Angeles in 2025.
The mayor's office weighs in
A spokesperson for Mayor Karen Bass called it outrageous that the owner has again let the property deteriorate while neighbors live next to the mess. The office noted that city departments have cleared the health and safety hazard more than once.
According to the mayor's office, the owner is going through mental health court and the criminal case against him is still open while a judge considers appointing a conservator. The mayor is urging the county Department of Mental Health to push for that appointment so a responsible party can keep the home from sliding back into this condition. The next hearing is set for Oct. 16.
New photos this week showed the yard buried in debris again, with neighbors describing bugs swarming the area.
