Klay Thompson found the left corner, planted his feet and let it fly.

The Miami Heat guard hit a 3-pointer with one second left in overtime Wednesday night to finish a 20-point comeback and beat the LA Clippers 117-116 on the road.

Thompson scored 30 points and made eight 3s. Bam Adebayo led Miami with 35 points and 10 rebounds. Giannis Antetokounmpo added 27 points, 14 rebounds and six assists.

The play

With the Clippers up two in the final seconds of overtime, Adebayo set a baseline screen. Antetokounmpo inbounded to Thompson, who turned and launched before Clippers guard Kobe Sanders could recover. The shot dropped with one second left. Sanders missed a desperation heave at the buzzer.

"I felt like I had so much space," Thompson said. "I'm not going to say that's an easy shot for me, but I've taken so many thousands of corner 3s, especially in that left corner. It's probably the easiest shot on the perimeter for a righty like myself."

"Great screen by Bam and great shot by Klay," Antetokounmpo said. "Whenever he shoots the ball, you feel like it's going in."

Grit after a rocky start

Miami lost its first four games of the season and improved to 3-5. Thompson made eight 3s in a game for the first time since December 2023 with Golden State. He signed with the Heat this summer after a buyout from Dallas.

Adebayo went 14-of-20 from the field. Antetokounmpo was 8-of-20 with 11-of-13 free throws, two steals and three blocks.

Rui Hachimura scored 21 points with nine rebounds and seven assists for the Clippers. Brook Lopez had 20 points and eight rebounds. Los Angeles fell to 1-7.

A controversial sequence at the end of regulation nearly derailed the comeback. Miami successfully challenged a foul on Pelle Larsson, but officials still awarded Hachimura two free throws for a foul on Adebayo. Hachimura missed the first and made the second to force overtime.

"The guys earned their ice," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We haven't really earned our ice many times this season. It's good to finally get some karma on our side."

"You can fight Father Time and [Thompson] is doing it," Spoelstra said. "He's putting in a ton of time on his body getting in shape and that's allowing him to show the skill set he's had in his Hall of Fame career."

The Heat visit the Golden State Warriors on Friday night.
