Kelly Clarkson calls out Brooklyn shop over 'Pretty Woman' style snub
Kelly Clarkson says a worker at Art of Play in Brooklyn acted like she could not afford the merchandise. She compared it to the famous Pretty Woman scene.

Kelly Clarkson says she lived out a real-life version of the most famous shopping scene in movie history. This time the star was on the receiving end of the snub.
The shopping trip
Clarkson posted about the experience on X Saturday. She called out Art of Play, a Brooklyn store that sells puzzles, games and toys.
She said she made a special trip to the shop because it looked fun and she had spotted several things she wanted. The visit did not go as planned.
What she says happened
According to Clarkson an employee treated her as if the items were out of her price range. She claims the worker even offered to point her toward something similar that cost less.
The Grammy winner was not amused. She says she told the employee the store had just missed out on a big sale.
A famous comparison
Clarkson then likened the moment to Julia Roberts in the 1990 film "Pretty Woman." With heavy sarcasm she suggested fans stop by the shop for that same experience.
In the movie Roberts plays Vivian. Clerks at a pricey Beverly Hills boutique brush her off because they assume she cannot pay. She later comes back with bags from other stores and famously tells them they made a big mistake.
Still unanswered
Clarkson did not name the worker or say exactly what she had hoped to buy. The singer moved to New York City in 2023 and money is clearly not an issue for her, which makes the alleged snub even more awkward.
The store does not appear to have responded publicly so far.
