The Brooklyn store Kelly Clarkson blasted on social media is not staying quiet. Art of Play answered the singer with a long post of its own that paints a very different picture of her visit.

A bird that was never for sale

Clarkson said Saturday that staff at the shop made her feel like Julia Roberts in the famous "Pretty Woman" boutique scene.

The shop tells it another way. It says the star wanted to buy Molly, a bird that sings and dances. According to the store Molly is fixed to the wall for good and was never on the market.

Millions of strangers

Art of Play wrote that it was stunned when its tiny neighborhood business found itself under fire from 8 million people who had never set foot inside.

The post ended with a jab borrowed from Clarkson's own catalog. The shop quoted the line "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" from her hit song.

Leaning on loyal customers

The store also reposted two kind notes from shoppers. One said simply that Art of Play is a great store.

Another review praised the workers for being friendly. The timing made it look like a quiet answer to the claims now putting the shop in the spotlight.

How it started

Clarkson had described a trip to the store with plans to pick up several things. She said a worker seemed to nudge her toward a cheaper option instead of taking her seriously as a buyer.

She made it clear she thought the employee had let a big sale walk out the door. Her account is still spreading online while the shop sticks to its own version.
