The back and forth between Kelly Clarkson and a Brooklyn novelty shop is not over yet. Art of Play put out a fresh statement early Monday that tries to explain how a short visit turned into a public fight.

A five-minute visit

According to the shop the singer was inside for about five minutes on Saturday. Art of Play believes the whole dispute grew out of a big misunderstanding during that brief stop.

The shop says Clarkson was interested in Molly, its mechanical singing bird. Molly is fixed to the wall for good and the store maintains it was never on the market.

Where the $15,000 figure came from

Here is the store's new explanation for the price. Staff say they told Clarkson about a Seattle artist named Bliss Kolb who has a bird that looks almost exactly like Molly. In the shop's account Kolb was open to selling that one for $15,000.

The store adds that it also offered to bring out a different singing bird built by a German clockmaker. That piece would have cost roughly $2,000 and she could have carried it out the door. The shop says she walked out before she got a look at it.

How the fight got here

Clarkson first went after the store on Saturday. She likened her visit to the scene in "Pretty Woman" where Julia Roberts gets the cold shoulder from boutique clerks.

Art of Play answered that Molly was not for sale. On Sunday night Clarkson fired back and branded the owner a liar. She insisted she was quoted $15,000 for the bird before being steered toward something less expensive.

Hoping for a laugh later

The shop now says it has contacted Clarkson directly in the hope of putting the matter to rest. Art of Play says it wishes the singer well. It also hopes both sides can look back on the whole episode with a laugh someday.

Clarkson has not said whether she will accept the olive branch.
