Justin Herbert's rough start just picked up a punchline from across town.

Los Angeles Rams safety Quentin Lake laughed his way through a description of facing the Chargers quarterback in Week 8 and said Herbert was "throwing deli meat out there."

"He's seeing ghosts," Lake added on the latest episode of the St. Brown Podcast, hosted by Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and his brother Equanimeous. "I don't know what's going on but like, we knew we were going to get a couple. At least one."

Harbaugh is not buying it

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about the comments Wednesday afternoon and brushed them aside.

"As far as anybody else's opinion, I don't see that. Everybody's entitled to their opinion," Harbaugh said. "It's not what I see."

Harbaugh said Herbert "did his job exceptionally well" against the Rams but admitted there were "two throws he would have liked to have back."

Herbert said he had not seen the clip. "I haven't looked into it. I haven't heard anything about it, so I can't make a comment about it," he said.

The numbers behind the jab

Herbert threw two interceptions in the 24-9 loss to the Rams, including one to Lake. The Chargers dropped to 0-7 and went a second straight game without a touchdown.

The former Offensive Rookie of the Year and two-time Pro Bowler leads the league with 10 interceptions and ranks last in QBR at 32.6.

The offense has struggled under first-year coordinator Mike McDaniel, who arrived after he was fired as head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Los Angeles ranks last in the NFL at 14.1 points per game and second to last with 2,018 total yards.

Harbaugh has stood firmly behind McDaniel through the slide. Now he is standing behind his quarterback too.
