Iowa State won a shootout on the final play. Kyle Konrardy made a 34-yard field goal as time expired to give the Cyclones a 51-49 upset of No. 24 Oklahoma State on Saturday night in Ames.

The teams combined for 1,114 yards of offense. Six scoring plays covered 40 yards or more.

Iowa State had scored just 13 points while losing its previous two games.

A costly penalty

Oklahoma State went ahead 49-48 with 53 seconds left. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker faked a handoff and flipped a 7-yard touchdown pass to Wyatt Young.

Young was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after the score. The penalty was enforced on the kickoff and gave Iowa State better field position.

The Cyclones needed only five plays to go 47 yards. Jaylen Raynor opened the drive with a 33-yard pass to Jamal Polite to set up Konrardy's winner.

Raynor answers his coach

Raynor was benched in the second half of last week's 39-3 loss at Arizona. Coach Jimmy Rogers said this week he would stay the starter.

Raynor rewarded him by completing 18 of 28 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a score.

Aiden Flora ran for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Polite had 171 receiving yards.

Mestemaker threw for 323 yards and five touchdowns for Oklahoma State. Running back Caleb Hawkins ran for 194 yards.

Iowa State improved to 4-4 and visits Baylor next Saturday. Oklahoma State fell to 5-3 and plays at Kansas State.
