Bryan Jackson spent the last two seasons at USC. On Saturday night he helped beat the Trojans. Jackson scored his first touchdown for Wisconsin and the Badgers upset No. 16 Southern California 24-7 in Madison.

Jackson's 5-yard run with less than two minutes left in the first half put Wisconsin ahead 10-7. The Badgers never trailed again.

It was Wisconsin's second win this season over a ranked team. The Badgers (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) also won 24-20 at then-No. 13 Penn State on Sept. 26.

A defense that would not bend

Wisconsin's defense set the tone early. It held USC to 92 yards in the first half and forced two turnovers. Trojans quarterback Jayden Maiava threw two interceptions before halftime after throwing only three all season on 224 passes.

USC could not run the ball at all. The Trojans finished with minus-17 rushing yards on 25 carries. Maiava completed 21 of 37 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown.

A gutsy fourth down

Wisconsin quarterback Colton Joseph found Chris Brooks Jr. for a 16-yard touchdown on fourth-and-2 in the third quarter to make it 17-7. Joseph went 12 of 14 for 58 yards and ran 12 times for 32 more.

Abu Sama III led the Badgers with 71 rushing yards on 16 carries. Junior Poyser blocked a 44-yard field goal try late in the third quarter to keep USC from cutting into the lead.

USC (5-2, 2-2) hosts No. 3 Ohio State next Saturday. Wisconsin visits No. 15 Iowa.
