Burning power bank in an overhead bin forces IndiGo jet to divert to Hyderabad
A portable charger caught fire in an overhead bin on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai. The jet diverted to Hyderabad and nobody was hurt.

Passengers on an IndiGo flight in India got a frightening scare on Sunday when a portable charger went up in flames above their heads. The blaze broke out inside an overhead storage bin and the plane had to make an unplanned landing.
Flames inside the cabin
Footage from the flight shows bright orange fire inside an open overhead bin. Travelers leap from their seats and pack the aisle while several people stretch toward the burning battery pack to try to put it out.
Dark smoke spreads through the cabin as other passengers look on from only a few feet away.
A detour to Hyderabad
The aircraft was flying from Delhi to Chennai when the fire started. Crew members got the flames under control. Even so the pilots changed course. They brought the jet down safely at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
What the airline says
IndiGo confirmed that smoke was spotted coming from an electronic device belonging to a passenger. The carrier said its crew moved fast and stuck to safety procedures.
No one was reported hurt. Passengers were moved to another aircraft before they finished the trip to Chennai.
The airline apologized for the trouble and handed out refreshments to the shaken travelers.
