Hunter Vargo started mushrooms with a grow kit during quarantine. He was 17, with no lab and no budget beyond what he could build at home.

YouTube taught the basics. A small setup made enough to take to one restaurant. That first yes is what he credits for staying with it.

The crop outgrew the bedroom and moved to a nearby farm, where he traded animal chores for grow space. He now supplies restaurants and one of the larger farmers markets in Scranton. Contamination and long days were the tuition.

From kit to a market table

On Upflip he walks through what a small mushroom setup actually needs and where the batches failed before any market stall looked steady.

The scale he describes is his own. The episode is a home kit that became a delivery list.
