Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders want a judge to stop My Chemical Romance from using their look on stage
The company behind the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is asking a court to stop My Chemical Romance from putting dancers in copycat uniforms on tour.

My Chemical Romance has picked a legal fight with one of the most famous uniforms in sports. The company behind the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is asking a judge to step in.
The court filing
Attorney Alex Spiro went to court on Friday seeking an injunction against the band. He represents Pro Silver Star, the company that owns the cheerleading brand. Live Nation is also named.
The target is one part of the band's current tour show. Backup dancers come out dressed in outfits modeled on the iconic Dallas cheer uniform.
The skit at the center of it
Concert footage shows the dancers shaking pom-poms on stage. They then pick up prop guns and act as if they are defending the band against an armed force.
The routine turns into a mock gun battle. The dancers are shown getting hit before they crawl off the stage.
What the cheerleaders want
Silver Star argues the costumes break its trademark. The filing says fans at the shows plus people watching online could easily believe they are seeing the real squad.
Spiro says the company is not trying to rewrite the show. The filing says it does not care about the setlist, the story, the politics or the choreography. It does not even object to armed performers on stage. It only wants those performers out of the uniform, noting that the range of other costume options "is effectively unlimited."
A warning that went nowhere
The company first sent the band a cease-and-desist letter. My Chemical Romance turned it down.
Now Silver Star argues that letting the band keep using the outfits would do lasting damage to the reputation and goodwill of the brand. The company is pushing for a quick ruling. My Chemical Romance has four upcoming nights booked at the famous Los Angeles venue known as the Hollywood Bowl.
