Billy Bush is not holding back about a tense run-in with author Amy Griffin. He says she turned a friend's wedding into a showdown over his coverage of her memoir.

A face-off at the reception

Bush shared his account on his podcast "Hot Mics." He says the encounter happened earlier this month in Hawaii at the wedding of jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer and Geoffrey Ogunlesi.

According to Bush, he noticed Griffin chatting with Demi Moore, who seemed to nudge her toward him. Soon after, he says, Griffin walked over looking nervous and visibly shaken.

He says she challenged him over the way he had covered her memoir "The Tell." Part of the exchange was about whether the book's cover art had been taken from someone else. Bush says Griffin told him her publisher picked the image. He says she then called him abusive.

A question for his girlfriend

Bush says Griffin also went up to his girlfriend Ali and asked how she could be with a man who supposedly treated her badly.

Bush, the former "Access Hollywood" host, called Griffin unhinged and said it was wrong to make a scene at someone else's wedding. "Imagine making it all about you," he said.

The fight behind it

The tension goes back to Bush's reporting on "The Tell." The memoir has drawn criticism over claims that Griffin borrowed another woman's story of sexual abuse. Griffin has denied those claims.

Bush says all he wants is the truth.
