Bend neighbors raise tens of thousands and line up daily meals for the family of 5-year-old Rhoam Summer
A Meal Train drive for slain 5-year-old Rhoam Summer has passed $60,000 toward a $100,000 goal. Neighbors will also bring the family dinner daily.

People in Bend, Oregon are wrapping their arms around the family of Rhoam Summer, the 5-year-old boy killed in Thursday's attack at Silver Rail Elementary School.
Money for a grieving family
Organizers started a Meal Train page for the Summer family with a goal of $100,000. Gifts have poured in quickly and the total had already topped $60,000.
On the page, organizers call Rhoam a sweet child. Organizers say they want to lift everyday burdens so his parents and relatives can simply grieve a loss no family should ever face.
Dinner at the door
The help goes beyond cash. Volunteers have signed up to bring the family a meal every day from Oct. 18 through Dec. 22.
The attack
The shooter, a 16-year-old, began firing at the school Thursday. Three children lost their lives: Rhoam plus an 8-year-old and an 11-year-old. A teacher also died.
The attacker was killed by a civilian, reportedly a parent of a student, who followed him into the building. A second man who tried to step in barely got away after bullets riddled his truck.
For now Bend is making sure Rhoam's family does not face the weeks ahead by themselves.
