Bend neighbors raise money for Kaylub Giamanco after he stopped the Silver Rail gunman
A Bend businesswoman started a GoFundMe for Kaylub Giamanco, the father who stopped the Silver Rail gunman, to cover therapy, legal costs and lost pay.

Bend residents are sending money to Kaylub Giamanco as a thank-you for ending Thursday's deadly attack at Silver Rail Elementary School.
Who started it
Amy Reynolds, a local businesswoman, set up a GoFundMe for Giamanco. He ran into the school and stopped a 16-year-old gunman who had already killed four people.
Reynolds says Giamanco acted out of love but may face hard days ahead that come with real costs.
Where the money goes
According to the page, donations will pay for trauma-informed therapy along with mental health care for Giamanco and his family. The money can also go toward any legal bills tied to the shooting.
It is meant to replace lost pay and cover household bills while he takes time away from his job. Anything left can help with needs that come up later.
Reynolds wrote that Giamanco "was there for our community in a moment of unimaginable fear" and that now it is the town's turn to support him.
Early support
The fundraiser opened Friday morning. Within hours it had brought in more than $2,500 of its $18,000 target.
GoFundMe says it is keeping watch on news about the shooting. The company says it will hold the money safely while it checks that the campaign is legitimate.
The attack
Police were called around 1 p.m. Thursday after a caller reported that the teen had fired several rounds into his car. The gunman used a pump-action shotgun. Officers got there within minutes but Giamanco had already shot and killed him.
