Texas winners Talarico and Hinojosa mark their big night with a late burger stop
Senator-elect James Talarico and governor-elect Gina Hinojosa capped a wild election night in Texas with giant sodas at a Whataburger packed with fans.

Texas Democrats James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa had a lot to celebrate on Tuesday night. So they did it the most Texan way possible.
The two winners stopped by a Whataburger late in the evening. They lifted huge foam soda cups in a toast as a crowd of cheering fans packed in around them.
Talarico is now the senator-elect after beating Ken Paxton. Hinojosa is the governor-elect. Both were grinning from ear to ear after a long and tense campaign.
The real stunner
As big as Talarico's win was, it may not have been the biggest jolt in the state.
Hinojosa knocked off sitting Governor Greg Abbott. Reports put her margin of victory at around seven points.
Abbott had led Texas since 2015. He was trying to win a fourth term in office.
Part of a bigger wave
The Texas results were one piece of a much larger Democratic surge across the country on Tuesday.
By the end of the night Democrats had retaken control of both the Senate and the House with room to spare.
For the two new Texas leaders the victory came with a side of fries and a very large fountain drink.
