Stephanie and Todd were not dessert operators when a Hawaii trip put real shave ice in front of them. It was not a snow cone. The texture stayed with them.

They bought a cheap machine, missed batches for months and wrote recipes at home. The shop that came out of that is Get Lost, built to introduce the dessert to a neighborhood that had not had it.

They changed the plan, turned an old repair shop into a hangout and spent savings getting through slow winters. Stephanie says the cold months tested whether they wanted the shop badly enough.

A machine and a lot of bad batches

On Upflip they talk through the repair-shop build and the winters when the line disappeared. The episode is less about a secret syrup than about staying open.

The monthly figure attached to the episode is their telling. The piece is a neighborhood dessert counter that started as a trip they could not shake.
