Spire Motorsports benches Carson Hocevar for NASCAR's Cup finale after Martinsville
Spire Motorsports suspended its own driver Carson Hocevar for the Cup finale at Homestead after he was accused of brake-checking Austin Cindric at Martinsville.

Carson Hocevar's own team has parked him for the last race of the season.
Spire Motorsports said Tuesday that Hocevar will sit out Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
"Racing at the Cup level is a privilege," the team said. "It comes with an expected level of professionalism."
What happened at Martinsville
Hocevar was accused of brake-checking Austin Cindric on purpose after a restart Sunday at Martinsville Speedway.
He appeared to slam on his brakes several times to cause contact. Cindric's No. 2 Ford was wrecked and he finished 36th.
Cindric told his team on the radio that Hocevar "had a mental breakdown."
Earlier in the race Hocevar was also accused of spinning on purpose to bring out a caution. That hurt the strategy of Christopher Bell and others on pit road.
"Our integrity matters"
Spire co-owner Jeff Dickerson said the team could have waited for NASCAR to hand out a penalty.
"To us, however, this isn't about money or points," Dickerson said. "We believe in respect. Our integrity matters."
He added that the team still loves and supports Hocevar. "Sometimes the right decision for someone you care about hurts in the short term."
Hocevar apologizes
Hocevar denied hitting Cindric on purpose. He said he "got lost there for a second."
"This is an embarrassing day for me," he wrote on social media. "I crossed the line with my on-track actions."
He said he will be rooting for the team this weekend. He plans to return in 2027 "as a better driver, competitor and teammate."
Justin Haley will drive the No. 77 Chevrolet at Homestead.
