Lionel Messi came through for Inter Miami again.

Messi set up the tying goal and scored the winner as Miami beat the New England Revolution 2-1 on Sunday in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The win clinched Miami a spot in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. It also moved them past the Revs into second place in the Eastern Conference with one game left.

The comeback

Dániel Gazdag put New England ahead early in the second half.

In the 69th minute, Messi flicked a clever backward header to Germán Berterame, who scored to tie it. Miami then brought on Luis Suárez.

Messi finished it off himself. He dribbled past defenders outside the box and hit a low left-footed shot past Revs goalkeeper Matt Turner.

New England thought it had tied the game late, but the goal was ruled offside.

'The best of all'

"I have no doubt that he's the best of all," Miami manager Cristian González said. "Leo at his age and what he does, from my point of view, deserves the MVP and also the Ballon d'Or."

Miami has 59 points from 33 games. It closes the regular season at home against Charlotte FC on Decision Day, Nov. 7.
