Goliath victim Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem had escaped a burning car only weeks earlier
A family friend says Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem and his daughter got out of a car fire weeks before his deadly fall from the Goliath coaster in Georgia.

Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem had already lived through several close calls before the Monday ride that took his life at Six Flags Over Georgia.
A fire weeks earlier
A friend of his family told Atlanta station WSB-TV that Kariem and his daughter made it out of a burning car only a few weeks ago. What started that fire has not been explained.
Years of health battles
The same friend described a man who kept fighting through hardship. She said he beat cancer and also pulled through a rough case of Covid-19 before the car fire.
The Goliath tragedy
Kariem was thrown from the Goliath coaster on Monday and did not survive. Four more people were hurt in the incident.
People who saw it happen have described the terrifying moments to reporters. Six Flags shut down Goliath along with several similar coasters at parks around the country.
A full review is now underway to figure out what went wrong.
