Mathys Tel seals Tottenham's 2-0 win at Chelsea as Cole Palmer is sent off for the first time
Mathys Tel's solo goal capped a rare Tottenham win at Stamford Bridge after Cole Palmer saw red for the first time in his senior career.

Mathys Tel ran from his own half and scored a stunning solo goal as Tottenham beat 10-man Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. It was only the second Premier League win for Spurs at Chelsea and their first there since 2018.
Cole Palmer was sent off for the first time in his senior career. His red card was the 100th for Chelsea in Premier League history, making it the third club to reach that mark after Everton and Arsenal. It was also the first home defeat for Chelsea under Xabi Alonso.
Roberto De Zerbi's side had won only one of its last 41 trips to Chelsea. Spurs had picked up their first league win of the season only on Monday at home against Coventry.
An own goal breaks the deadlock
The game stayed scoreless until the 77th minute. Mateus Fernandes curled in a corner and Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, filling in for the injured Emiliano Martínez, punched it into his own net under pressure from Jan Paul van Hecke.
Spurs goalkeeper Antonín Kinsky kept them level before that. He parried an early shot from Palmer, denied Jordan Henderson from the edge of the box and kicked away a follow-up from Pedro Neto. He also stopped Neto again just after the hour.
De Zerbi paired Sandro Tonali and Fernandes in midfield for the first time. Spurs lost James Maddison to an injury four minutes after halftime.
Palmer loses his cool
The flashpoint came around the 70th minute. Fernandes stopped a Palmer run with his hand. Palmer reacted by barging into him while the midfielder was down on the turf. Referee Chris Kavanagh booked both players. Micky van de Ven and De Zerbi also went into the book.
Palmer's night ended three minutes after the opener. He stepped on Conor Gallagher's ankle with a late tackle. Kavanagh showed him a second yellow.
Tel finished it off three minutes from time. He carried the ball from deep in his own half, left Maxence Lacroix behind and beat Penders low into the bottom-left corner. De Zerbi celebrated on the touchline as the rain kept falling.
What comes next
Palmer will miss Chelsea's League Cup trip to Liverpool on Wednesday. He is set to be available for the home game against Manchester United next weekend if his one-match ban is not extended.
Chelsea stays fourth in the table for now. Spurs moved up to 12th.
