Martha Stewart offers a brand-new origin story for her Halloween costume and Craig Melvin is in it
Martha Stewart told a crowd in Orlando that Craig Melvin spilled chocolate on her sweater and that is how her rushed homeless woman costume came about.

Martha Stewart has a new explanation for her homeless woman Halloween costume. This time she says Craig Melvin played a part.
On Tuesday the lifestyle mogul addressed an Orlando crowd at a sales rally put on by CrossCountry Mortgage. That is where she raised the subject of the outfit again.
She told the audience the whole thing traced back to the "Today" show host. Craig had dressed up as Snoop Dogg on the morning show on Friday.
The chocolate mishap
According to Martha, Craig spilled chocolate on her sweater by accident. She says that sweater was the one she meant to wear to a Halloween party that same evening.
Martha said she was left with just 10 minutes to throw a new look together.
The quickest idea she landed on was to go as a "bum," which was the word she used.
Not meant to offend
Martha told the crowd the costume was never supposed to be an insult. She said she still apologized publicly because of the backlash.
A different story before
Her latest version does not line up with what she said only days earlier. At that point she framed the costume as a way to shine a light on homelessness.
"I am distressed that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness, has offended people, which was never my intention," she said at the time.
Martha has not responded to a new request for comment.
