Marilyn Monroe's old Palm Springs retreat finds a buyer at $2.81 million
A Palm Springs designer paid $2,810,000 for the desert home Marilyn Monroe owned in the early 1960s and plans to restore it while keeping its character.

A desert hideaway once owned by Marilyn Monroe has changed hands. The Palm Springs property closed at $2,810,000.
A fan with a plan
The new owner is Violet Moran, a designer who lives in the area. Monroe ranks among her favorite stars. People close to the deal say she is thrilled to take on a house with that kind of history.
Moran intends to put her own stamp on it. At the same time she wants to respect the original look and feel of the place. Her goal is to bring it back to the condition a home like this deserves.
What the buyer gets
The house covers roughly 3,000 square feet. It has four bedrooms with four baths to match. Inside are vaulted ceilings plus several rooms built for hosting guests. Out back there is a private pool, which is close to required in the desert heat.
Monroe's years there
The screen icon held the property in the early 1960s.
Who handled the deal
The seller was Nick Adler, who founded M Star Studios. David Emerson of Coldwell Banker Realty had the listing and also worked for the buyer. He said he enjoys handling historic homes like this one because they carry both celebrity stories and the striking architecture Palm Springs is famous for.
