Kurt Suzuki is out as Angels manager after the team's first 100-loss season
The Angels declined their 2027 option on Suzuki after a 62-100 finish and offered him a special assistant role as they begin a search for a new manager.

Kurt Suzuki's run as manager of the Los Angeles Angels is over after one season.
The Angels announced Wednesday that they declined their 2027 club option on Suzuki and will search for a new manager and coaching staff. The club offered Suzuki a role as a special assistant so he can stay with the organization.
Los Angeles went 62-100 under Suzuki. It was the first 100-loss season in franchise history, topping the old mark of 99 losses set in 2024.
"Not a true reflection"
Interim general manager John Mozeliak said Suzuki earned tremendous respect in the clubhouse.
"I do not believe our record this year was a true reflection of his abilities as a manager," Mozeliak said in a statement. "I'm pleased we were able to offer Kurt a role to stay on as a special assistant, where his knowledge of our players and his perspective would continue to be valuable to the organization."
Mozeliak also thanked the coaching staff for its work through a very difficult season. He said some staff members have been offered other positions with the club.
Bright spots and big changes
The starting rotation was a real improvement. Behind Reid Detmers, Walbert Urena, Grayson Rodriguez and Jose Soriano before his deadline trade, the starters' ERA dropped to 4.14 from 4.91 a year earlier.
Bigger changes are coming. Stan Kroenke is set to take control of the team from Arte Moreno in the first quarter of 2027 and a decision on Mozeliak's own future has not been made.
Suzuki's successor will be the Angels' sixth manager since Mike Scioscia's 19-year run ended in 2018. The club has not reached the postseason since 2014.
Suzuki, a former catcher, played 16 seasons for five teams and won the 2019 World Series with the Washington Nationals. He finished his playing career with the Angels in 2021 and 2022, then spent three years as a special assistant in the front office before taking over as manager.
