Katie Zacharia says wedding plans and a move to China cost her the bar
The White House press secretary says she failed California's bar in 2011 while planning her wedding and a move to China. She never sat for it again.

Katie Zacharia says her mind was on a wedding and a new life overseas when she sat for the California bar.
On Real America's Voice with Jack Posobiec she said California's 2011 exam went poorly after Pepperdine Law. She blamed wedding prep with Tyler Zacharia plus getting ready for a China move tied to his job.
Why she did not retake it
She called the fail "inconsequential" because she expected not to need a U.S. bar license in China. Asked why she skipped a second try she pointed to starting a family. She and Tyler now have four children.
In China she joined Zhong Lun Law Firm on international deal work. Zhong Lun ranks among the country's biggest firms.
How she described herself
Trump hired her as press secretary and billed her as an attorney. Her social media bio called her a lawyer. She told the interviewer it was acceptable to use that label for the work she was doing even though she had not passed the bar.
She previously said she practiced international transaction law with the appropriate credentials. A White House official noted she holds a Pepperdine J.D. and relocated overseas with her husband after graduation for his private equity role.
These are her own explanations of a failed exam. Passing the bar is still required to practice as a licensed attorney in U.S. jurisdictions that use it.
