Kara Ward's furniture work started as a way through a bad year, not a brand. In 2020 her husband lost an events job just after they bought a house.

Medical bills and two kids made the month tight. During lockdown they painted their own bedroom furniture with leftover wall paint and lessons from videos, then posted photos with no plan.

Friends asked her to do their pieces. Thrift and marketplace finds turned into five or six flips a week. She says the work helped them deal with about $60,000 in debt.

Paint before a studio

The Upflip episode is about that first bedroom set and the messages that followed. She talks through a week of pickups, paint and resale from home.

The debt figure is hers. The business is a couple refinishing furniture because the events paycheck stopped.
