Johnny Depp picked up a guitar Thursday night and helped Aerosmith celebrate a return nobody was sure would ever happen.

The actor walked out at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles during the band's first concert since 2023. He went straight to Joe Perry for a big hug. The two already know each other well from playing together in the Hollywood Vampires.

A quick cue from Steven Tyler

Steven Tyler let out a few notes on his harmonica as a hint. Depp nodded to show he knew exactly what was coming and was ready to go.

The band then ripped into "Train Kept a Rollin'" while Depp wandered around the stage with a wide smile on his face.

Another warm welcome for Depp

The appearance adds to a run of friendly moments for the star. He spent several years on the outs in Hollywood following his trial with Amber Heard. In July the Comic-Con crowd gave him a loud reception while he pitched his new film "Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol."

Tyler has dealt with legal trouble of his own over the last couple of years. So it makes sense that he and Perry would open the door for a friend.

A packed guest list

Depp was far from the only famous face on that stage. Liv Tyler showed up to support her dad. Alicia Silverstone also appeared, more than 30 years after she starred in the band's "Crazy" music video.

Axl Rose, Slash, Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson, Dave Grohl and the Black Crowes were among the other guests.

Back after a long break

Aerosmith stepped away from touring in 2024 after Tyler suffered a serious vocal cord injury. Now the group is back in action with another Hollywood Bowl show set for Sunday. More surprise guests could be on the way.
