Jay-Z may be stepping out from behind the curtain and onto the biggest stage in American sports. The rap mogul has chosen himself to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show, according to a Tuesday report from Puck's Dave Brooks that leans on several sources.

The game is set for Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Neither the NFL nor Roc Nation has confirmed the pick. Representatives for the league and for the company did not answer Puck when it asked for comment.

Other stars were in the running

Jay-Z was not the only name on the table. The report says Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber were also considered for the slot.

From the man who picks to the man on stage

Few artists know the show as well as he does. His entertainment company Roc Nation signed on with the NFL in 2019 to advise on the music for the league's biggest events and to support its social justice programs. USA Today has reported that the two sides renewed that deal in 2024.

Headlining would turn his usual job upside down. For years he has helped decide who gets the halftime spotlight. This time he would be the one under it.

He would bring a deep catalog with him. His albums run from "Reasonable Doubt" to "The Blueprint" to "4:44" and span decades of hip-hop history.

A hot streak on the road

Puck pointed to his recent concerts as a sign that fans still show up for him in big numbers. The outlet cited strong ticket sales for his anniversary shows plus recent stadium dates in New York, Philadelphia and Paris.

The halftime show has become a cultural moment of its own. Kendrick Lamar's 2025 set and the choice of Bad Bunny for 2026 both drew interest far beyond football fans.

If the league makes it official, a Jay-Z show could draw on every era of his career and bring out some of the many artists he has worked with over the years. For now the news is a report and not an announcement, so fans will have to wait to hear from the NFL or Roc Nation.
