Two New York radio personalities picked an unusual target on their popular show last week. They went after the people who run the station that pays them.

A 15-minute rant

The Kid Mero and Kazeem "Kaz" Famuyide host "Mornings with Mero" on Hot 97, the famed hip-hop station. On air they spent roughly a quarter of an hour criticizing the group in charge.

Their complaints covered a lot of ground. They said gifted on-air talent keeps walking out over contract fights. They claimed some freelancers have not been paid what they were promised. They also knocked the station for still relying on aging equipment.

The basketball comparison

Mero framed it in sports terms. In his view the station has the talent of a great basketball roster. He argued that even a team like that cannot win a title when the owners have no idea what they are doing.

Kaz went further and called Hot 97 the worst place he has ever worked. Mero said he felt the same way.

Why now

The rant follows a wave of departures. Peter Rosenberg, Ebro and Laura Stylez, who hosted mornings at the station for years, all left recently.

Back in December 2025 Ebro said the exits came down to money. He claimed the station was chasing venture capital by trimming costs, salaries included.

Still on the job

Mero and Kaz aired their grievances on Wednesday. By Saturday there was no sign that either one had left the station.

Hot 97 was asked for comment and had not responded.
