Former fifth grade teacher Laura Caron pleads guilty in abuse case involving a student who fathered her child
Former New Jersey teacher Laura Caron pleaded guilty to child endangerment after being accused of abusing a student from age 11. She faces five years in prison.

Laura Caron, a former fifth grade teacher in New Jersey, has pleaded guilty in a case that accused her of sexually abusing a student and having a baby with him.
The 36-year-old was charged in January 2025. Prosecutors said the abuse started when the boy was as young as 11 and went on for four years.
According to reports, a probable cause affidavit in the case says Caron became pregnant by the student and gave birth to his child. She was 27 at that point. He was 13.
The plea deal
Caron entered a guilty plea to a single second-degree count. The charge is child endangerment involving sexual conduct. Under the deal she gives up her teaching license and is expected to get a five-year prison term. Her sentencing is set for January.
County prosecutors in Cape May said a state diagnostic and treatment center in Avenel will assess her before she goes to prison. That review will decide "whether she is deemed repetitive and/or compulsive which could impact her sentence," the office said.
Lifelong supervision
Once she finishes her prison term Caron will remain on parole supervision for life. She will also be required to register as a sex offender.
