Eagles sign Joe Milton off the Cowboys practice squad after Jalen Hurts' blood clot sidelined him
The Eagles signed Joe Milton off Dallas' practice squad after Jalen Hurts was ruled out indefinitely with a calf blood clot.

Philadelphia needed another quarterback and went shopping in its own division.
The Eagles signed Joe Milton off the Dallas Cowboys practice squad and placed him on the 53-man roster. The move comes a day after the team ruled Jalen Hurts out indefinitely with a superficial blood clot in his calf. Tanner McKee is set to start Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
Who is Milton?
Milton was a sixth-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2024 and was traded to Dallas last year. The Cowboys waived him at final cuts this summer and brought him back to the practice squad. He has appeared in five NFL games with 37 completions on 53 attempts for 424 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also rushed for 66 yards and a score. He has never started a regular-season game.
Closing the door on Dalton?
Signing Milton may end talk of a reunion with veteran Andy Dalton who was released earlier this month and has been weighing offers. Milton must stay on the active roster for at least three games which would put him on a collision course with Dallas when the Eagles host the Cowboys on Monday Night Football in Week 7.
The room behind Hurts
McKee will get the first meaningful start of his career on Sunday. Rookie Cole Payton remains on the roster as well. How long Hurts stays out is unclear. Treatment for a clot often means blood thinners and a player on blood thinners cannot play.
