José Luis and José Armando Cevallos, conjoined twins who built a following by sharing their everyday lives online, have died. They were 27.

What happened

The brothers lived in Ecuador. Their close friend Fernando Carrillo spoke with the Spanish TV show "Y Ahora Sonsoles" about their final hours.

Carrillo said José Luis suffered cardiac arrest and the pair were rushed to a hospital. Doctors were able to stabilize him. Within a few minutes his brother José Armando was struck by a heart attack of his own. Neither twin survived.

According to the twins' own social page, both brothers passed away Thursday.

A family in shock

Their brother Damián told the show the sudden loss had crushed him. He added that he could not imagine the pain their parents are feeling.

Sharing their story

The twins drew more than 60,000 followers by showing what life was like as conjoined brothers. They had shared new posts only days before they died.

Their Instagram page thanked everyone who stood by them and helped them reach their goals. It said the happiness they spread will live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
