Chris Rock is getting candid about where he fell short in his marriage. He says one habit in particular is now behind him.

The comedian looked back on his years with Malaak Compton-Rock in a new magazine cover interview for its Men of the Year issue. The couple split in 2016.

"I was not a great husband. I watched a lot of porn. I don't watch porn anymore. I haven't watched porn in five, six years," he said.

'Something he had to go through'

Rock did not spell out whether the porn caused the trouble at home. Still, he clearly ties the two together when he looks back.

He said that stretch of his life is nothing he is proud of. He also called it a chapter he needed to live through.

Rock compared the experience to the arc of a Marvel superhero who has to learn to put others first before becoming the best version of himself.

A late diagnosis

The star also talked about being diagnosed with a nonverbal learning disorder. He said it helped him see how insensitive he had been to people for years.

"Mental illness and celebrity ... it's a weird combination there, because you think people are reacting a certain way because of celebrity. Because it's this weird thing that you can't quantify. So I used to just blame everything on celebrity. It's like, 'Oh, we're not connecting because I had a chronic unique-ism.' I thought I was so f***ing unique," Rock said.

He still slipped plenty of his usual jokes into the conversation. Even so, the interview shows a more serious side of the star than fans usually get to see.
