Manchester United led at halftime of a league game for the first time this season. They still could not hang on for a win.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored early in the second half on Sunday to give Leeds United a 1-1 draw with their rivals at a loud Elland Road. United have now gone five Premier League games without a win and have not won in the league since Aug. 30.

Mbeumo strikes first

The derby was scrappy from the start with early yellow cards for Bruno Fernandes and Leeds defender Gabriel Gudmundsson. Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford and United keeper Senne Lammens both had saves to make.

In the 35th minute Bryan Mbeumo slipped away from James Justin and turned in a low cross from Youri Tielemans for his fourth goal of the season.

Leeds leveled in the 51st minute. Tarik Muharemovic headed a corner down to Calvert-Lewin at the edge of the six-yard box. The England striker held off Mbeumo and slammed it home.

Leeds pushed for a winner as the crowd roared. Anton Stach had the best late chance but Lammens smothered his low shot after a scramble in front of goal. Leeds are still waiting for their first home win over United in 24 years.

Carrick under pressure

United have seven points from seven league games and one win in their last seven matches in all competitions. It is the club's worst start to a season since 1986.

"I understand the situation doesn't look great but I have no doubts we can go on a good run," Carrick said. "We are more than capable of winning matches."

The week began with defender Lisandro Martinez criticizing the club's lack of summer spending after a Champions League loss at Atletico Madrid. Martinez apologized and kept his place in the lineup on Sunday.

"It felt like a fresh start today, accepting it and doing something about it," Carrick said. "There was definitely that commitment. It had to be there today."

United visit Como in the Champions League on Wednesday.

"If you keep doing the right things for the right reasons, you get what you deserve in the end," Carrick said.
