Arsenal turned a tight Champions League night into a statement win in seven minutes.

Jurriën Timber, Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka all scored in the second half as Arsenal beat Lille 3-0 at the Emirates on Tuesday. The players wore black armbands for club life president Ken Friar who died at 92.

Patience then a flood

The first half ended scoreless. Lille had the ball in the net through Ayase Ueda but a video review confirmed he was offside.

Arsenal broke through in the 64th minute. Noni Madueke found Timber in the box. Timber took a sharp first touch and lifted a finish over the goalkeeper.

Saka, Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz came on right after the opener. Within three minutes Saka set up Eze for the second goal. In the 71st minute Ødegaard, Havertz and Saka combined and Saka slid in the third.

What they said

"I'm sure he is very happy to see how the boys played," coach Mikel Arteta said of Friar. "The legacy that Ken is going to leave for this club is going to be for ever."

A growing streak

The win was Arsenal's 14th in a row in the league phase of the competition. Lille's Olivier Giroud entered late and received a standing ovation on his return to north London. Arsenal visit Bayern Munich next in the Champions League.
