Victor Wembanyama and Dylan Harper lead the Spurs past the short-handed Mavericks 122-106 for their first win
Victor Wembanyama had 23 points and four blocks and Dylan Harper scored 22 as San Antonio beat a Dallas team missing Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving.

The San Antonio Spurs finally have a win. Victor Wembanyama had 23 points, seven rebounds and four blocks and Dylan Harper scored 22 as the Spurs beat the Dallas Mavericks 122-106 on Saturday night in Dallas.
De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle added 19 points each. The win kept San Antonio from its first 0-3 start since the 2008-09 season. The Spurs had lost to Oklahoma City on Tuesday and to Houston in Austin on Friday.
Dallas (1-2) played without its two biggest stars. Cooper Flagg, last season's Rookie of the Year, hurt his shoulder in Friday's win at Indiana and will be checked again next week. Kyrie Irving sat out the second night of a back-to-back after returning this season from a torn ACL that kept him out for 19 months.
A big fourth quarter
San Antonio let a 14-point lead slip away in the third quarter. The Spurs took control again by opening the fourth on a 17-5 run over the first six minutes. They won the quarter 30-17 and Spurs fans were loud at American Airlines Center by the end.
Wembanyama started slowly with just one point until midway through the second quarter. Then he threw down two alley-oop dunks in a span of two minutes and finished the half with 12 points.
Winning the glass
The Spurs grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and outscored Dallas 25-10 on second-chance points. That made up for a big night inside by the Mavericks, who scored 46 points in the paint in the first half. That is a franchise record for a half since at least the 1997-98 season.
Rookie Sergio de Larrea led Dallas with 21 points off the bench and made 3 of 4 from 3-point range. P.J. Washington led the starters with 12.
The Spurs host Sacramento on Tuesday. The Mavericks visit Miami on Monday.
