The Golden State Warriors have stopped paying Kristaps Porzingis.

The team is not making the twice-monthly payments on his $20 million salary. Golden State has ruled that the absent center is not providing his services to the team.

Porzingis is not fighting it, league sources said.

Still shopping his deal

General manager Mike Dunleavy is still looking for trades built around Porzingis' contract. That is happening even as the 31-year-old leans toward ending his NBA career.

The Warriors have no plans to void the deal. They want to keep their trade options open until the Feb. 11 deadline.

For another team, taking on his nearly expiring salary could help them dump a longer contract or even pick up a draft asset.

How it got here

Porzingis has battled a long health issue over the past two seasons. He signed a two-year, $40 million extension with Golden State this summer, with only $3 million guaranteed in the second year.

On the eve of training camp he called Dunleavy and stepped away. In early October he met with Dunleavy and lead medical decision-maker Rick Celebrini. The team then said he would be around.

It did not last. He left the facility and has not come back. His status changed from out with "general illness" to "not with team."

It is no longer an excused absence.

Winning without him

On the court, Golden State has been fine without him. The Warriors have won five games in a row after an 0-3 start.
