Walmart worker given months to live blows past his cancer fundraiser goal as strangers rally behind him
Michael DePew, 28, was told aggressive testicular cancer could take his life in 3 months. Donors have now given over $44K and his chemo has begun.

A 28-year-old Walmart worker facing a terrifying cancer diagnosis is getting a huge boost from total strangers.
Michael DePew learned he has an aggressive form of testicular cancer. Doctors warned him he might only have 3 months left if he went without care.
With bills piling up he launched a GoFundMe in hopes of paying for the treatment he needs right away. He set the goal at $30,000.
Donors answered the call
The response has been overwhelming. The fundraiser has now pulled in more than $44,000 and the total keeps climbing.
Speaking in an interview about his situation, DePew said he was told the cancer is "survivable" as long as he starts treatment quickly.
His fundraiser page lays out where the money is going. That list includes surgery, chemotherapy, scans and lab work.
It also covers doctor visits plus travel to get to them. Lost wages, rent and other bills are part of the plan too.
Chemo is underway
A journalist who reported on his story shared an update on the fundraising page. She said the donations allowed DePew to begin his first round of chemo.
There was more good news in that update. Walmart has agreed to give him health insurance.
Until that coverage starts the donated money will keep paying for his care.
